The person in charge is responsible for ensuring that all staff are registered to work on the premises. Ofsted forms are issued and checks are carried out before an individual can start employment at the setting.

Staff who have a NVQ level 3 in child care or playwork need to ensure that students or visitors are:

  • Not left unsupervised whilst caring for children.

  • Not to take children for toilet visits unless supervised by registered staff.

  • Not to change nappies.

  • Not left unsupervised during outdoor play.

  • Not left alone in a room with children.

  • Not to administer medication.

  • Not to administer first aid.

Good Practice is to ensure no staff are left by themselves throughout the daily routine, no matter what qualification they may have.

Whilst ensuring all of the above are adhered to, it is vital that the students and visitors are made to feel part of the team and participate fully in every other aspect of the nursery day.
